Brewery Moves

Posted on Friday, January 12, 2018 by Northshore

Newburyport - House Bear Brewing’s recent move to Graf Road is already beginning to pay off.
House Bear co-founders Beth Borges and Carl Hirschfeld started their meadery in downtown Amesbury in 2014 but made the move to Newburyport over the summer.
With more space to work with and now located within walking distance to Newburyport Brewing Co. on New Pasture Road and RiverWalk Brewing Co. on Parker Street, Borges said the trio of craft breweries can offer a new attraction to city residents and visitors.
“This can really be an interesting new thing for winter,” Borges said. “People don’t have to walk around all the stores and wait for a table in the downtown. They could come down to the breweries and have a little pub crawl in the industrial area.”
House Bear’s new location has also allowed Borges and Hirschfeld to land a new distributor in Craft Collective. Borges said the Stoughton-based craft beverage wholesaler has increased House Bear’s list of accounts from 95 to 800 almost overnight.
“I don’t know how quickly (production) will ramp up but it’s a pretty exciting prospect,” Borges said. “We also have the space to grow upwards.”
“We have a little electric fireplace in the tasting room, so it will be nice and cozy in there,” Borges said. “We will also be plying people with food, so I am very excited. It will be nice to meet people from the community and just hear their stories.”
Bartender Erica Yeomans is expected to be creating mixed drinks from some of House Bear’s most popular meads at the grand opening. A tasting room, just like a barroom, often gives people a chance to stop in, have a drink and unburden themselves, Borges said.
“People come in and tell their stories and I love that,” Borges said. “I love to meet people through their stories.”
